Master and Commander
The plot: Follows the adventures of Captain Jack Aubrey and his ship during the Napoleonic Wars.The good: Great use of Russell Crowe - no trying to get him to have a second dimension or anything. Also good stuff about evolution for the science nerds.
The bad: It's all action, there's no attempt to any kind of romantic sub-plot to keep the girlfriend happy.
Conclusion: Great action movie, well worth watching for that. Nothing beyond that though.
